2014 is over and 2015 has begun. With the year turning I decided to put together a wish list from Apple for 2015. Last year was not a flat year for Apple: we got a good mix of hardware and software; iOS 8, iPhone 6 & 6 Plus, Apple Pay, OS X Yosemite, 5K Retina iMac, new iPads and the Apple Watch announcement. Some hardware is still difficult to purchase and that is pretty impressive if you ask me. With that said lets move on to 2015.
Lets start here for three reasons:
A) Most likely to happen first
B) Highly anticipated
C) Because I want it!
The rumored availablity for Watch is March 2015 and yes, I will be waiting outside in the cold to get one!! The Watch will be a fitness tracker, a new way to communicate with others, a new way to interact with applications and most importantly tell time. The device will be available in three styles, Sport, Watch, Edition, and pricing will start at $349.
iOS 8 brought some great features to the users: Widgets, Hand Off, Extensions, Continuity, 3rd party keyboards and more, but with the good comes the not so good. For example, 3rd party keyboards do not have access to voice dictation and they are not very reliable. There are also a lot of instability issues with the OS. I personally have experienced multiple freezes, resprings and force quitting by apps. This makes for a very frustrating experience and Apple is working on software updates to improve the user experience but I think they need to spend some more time on QA of the OS.
iTunes Radio Improvements
I have a love-hate relationship with iTunes Radio. Here is why I love it; the cost is minimal, $25/yr compared to subscription services($10/mo) and its convenient as it is built into iOS. The few down falls of iTunes Radio are the skip count, inability to share the song playing (only the station), and the biggest, for me, is the inability to fine tune curated stations by Apple. In 2014 Apple acquired Beats and rumor is Beats Music will be integrated into iTunes Radio in early 2015. I played around with Beats Music a few times and it has a nice feature set. I personally do not need all the bells and whistels it offers but I would like an improved iTunes Radio experience.
You may be asking yourself, where do I want more GB's?
Its not necessarily more GB that I want vs the elimination of 8 & 16 GB devices. Apple does ship their devices with the most usable free space compared to the competitioin but they need to do better. With iPhone 6 launch they eliminated the 32GB line and bumped it to 64GB and inroduced a 128GB model. While the increase in space for the same pricing is great, I would have rather seen them eliminate 8GB all together, make 16GB available only on older hardware (iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S) and made the storage options 32GB, 64Gb and 128GB. I can’t tell you how many times people have come to me for help regarding a storage issue
Yosemite brought a welcomed visual overhaul to the Mac OS. Currently people are having a lot of Issues with mail and wifi. I, thankfully am not one of them but I do wish Apple would tighen up the OS with stability this year.
I am currently content with other hardware, iPhone iPad and my many Mac's so I don't need improvement on anything there. I would like more RAM in my iPhone but I don't need it.* The only hardware I want is the watch. Is it March yet??
The odds of all of these things happening are high. We know the watch is coming this year. We know apple will hold WWDC this year and announce iOS 9 and Mac OS 10.11. The feature set we don't know but we the the software is coming. The odds apple integrates beats music into iTunes Radio some how are 50/50. I doubt Apple will change the entry GB level and new mobile hardware is rumored for the fall. As for Mac hardware, well that could come at any time. Recent rumors have a new MacBook Air coming out in the first half of the year but we will wait and see.
Until that time comes I will keep adding on to my wish list. What are you wanting from Apple this year? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter.
