Feedback & Follow Up

The Big Discussion

  • App Battle: Apple Notes vs. Bear Notes vs. Evernote

  • Rules of Play:

    • Each Jedi gets 3 attack waves to launch their assault on their enemies. (make a case for their "Weapon of Choice" by emphasizing one particular feature that is considered a strength)

    • A round consists of all 3 Jedi making a case for why their app is the supreme "Weapon of Choice". The other combatants will then have a chance to attack by 1 of two methods.

  • 1. Pointing out a flaw in the so-called Jedi attack or promoted app feature.

  • 2. Praise their own "Weapon of Choice" by explaining why their app is a more capable weapon in regard to the promoted feature.

  • After 3 rounds are over, the App Battle winner will be declared by a unanimous decision by all 3 Jedi (which will be unlikely) or alternatively, the victor will be voted on by the listening audience via Twitter or Email.

  • I polled our Twitter followers to find out what their go-to apps were to get a sense of who wins in particular app categories (native or 3rd party). Here are the results.

    • Email: Native

    • Notes: Native with Bear Notes a close 2nd (Bear is an Apple Design Award winner)

    • Tasks: Native Reminders & Things go neck & neck (Things is an Apple Design Award Winner)

    • Calendar: Fantastical gets edge on Native

    • Read Later Service: 3 way split, native Reading List, Instapaper, Pocket

    • Twitter Client: Tweetbot dominant

    • Podcast Client: Pocket Casts

    • Weather: Carrot

  • Airmail 3 from Episode 28, won an ADA

GTDJedi Podcast - EP028 - App Battle - iOS Mail vs Airmail vs Newton

GTDJedi Show Notes

Episode #: 28

Date: 04/25/17

Hosts: Clay Russell, Jerry Goldbaum & Timothy Broder

The Big Discussion

  • App Battles - Battle of the Email Clients

  • App Battle Rules:

    • Each Jedi gets 3 attack waves to launch their assault on their enemies. (make a case for their "Weapon of Choice" by emphasizing one particular feature that is considered a strength)

A round consists of all 3 Jedi making a case for why their app is the supreme "Weapon of Choice". The other combatants will then have a chance to attack by 1 of two methods.

  • 1. Pointing out a flaw in the so-called Jedi attack or promoted app feature.

        Or

    • 2. Praise their own "Weapon of Choice" by explaining why their app is a more capable weapon in regard to the promoted feature.

  • After 3 rounds are over, the App Battle will be declared by a unanimous decision by all 3 Jedi (which will be unlikely) or alternatively, the victor will be voted on by the listening audience via Twitter or Email.

  • Dane Hansen @danehansen1
Hi, just heard the latest GTDJedi. In OZ we can override our own unlisted number  on a call by call basis, by adding a code before the number you are dealing. Thus the person you are calling can see your caller ID for your unlisted number. For Telstra in OZ the code is *31# (you would obviously need your parents telco provider's code) This may solve your VIP Do Not Disturb Problem with your parents. Cheers, Dane. *82 in the US
