This week my "iOS Pick" was a utility for the iPhone called Cuckoo.
Once in awhile you come across an app in the App Store that is so simple, yet so helpful. It does one thing and it does it so well that it becomes a must-have app. In this case, I am referring to Cuckoo.
Cuckoo is an app that provides you with a push notification alert at the top of every hour. It does not provide you with a text alert or a red badge by the icon as it shouldn't . No, it just gives you an hourly chime. There are many different sound options to choose from as I prefer the simplicity of the Wrist Watch alert. It sounds like an old digital watch I would wear 20 years ago but it is subtle and it was exactly what I was looking for. If you are worried that this alert would wake you up in the middle of the night or go off in class, don't. Because cuckoo also gives you the ability to set a quite time when the alerts disappear until scheduled to turn back on.
I found this app most useful when playing games before heading into work in the morning. Many of the iPhone games take advantage of the entire screen and in doing so obstruct your status bar view. That is no longer an issue as with Cuckoo, I don't lose track of time. If your prefer, alerts every 30 minutes are available as well. Now upon installing, not many sounds are instantly available, but follow them on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook and they open up the options for you to several other sounds.
This app is free so there is no reason for you not to download. Get Cuckoo in the App Store today! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cuckoo-keep-track-of-time/id415083144?mt=8
