Apple announces new iPad model for China

BEIJING―April 1, 2014―Apple® today announced TD-LTE capable models of iPad Air™ and iPad mini™ with Retina® display, bringing high-speed LTE performance* to iPad® customers in China, are available starting today. The new iPad models give customers the ability to connect to today’s most advanced cellular data networks at blazingly fast speeds, so users can surf the web or download email and apps even faster. iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display models supporting TD-LTE also accommodate the TD-SCDMA mobile standard, and join existing iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display WLAN + Cellular models in support of Personal Hotspot connectivity and other advanced cellular technology (GSM/EDGE, DC-HSDPA, HSPA+) to provide customers in China fast cellular access in whichever iPad model they choose.

Expanded coverage is always good news. Apple can now get the iPad into the hands of more people.

iPhone 6 displays to enter production in May?

Reuters, via 9to5mac, is reporting that Japan Display Inc, Sharp Corp and South Korea's LG Display Co Ltd are lined up to begin production of the display soon. The report also says there will be 2 sizes, 4.7in & 5.5in, with the 5.5in being delayed.

4.7in is the biggest size I would go. I love my 5S, don't get me wrong. But there are times I wouldn't mind having a wider screen. We should see a new iPhone in the fall if Apple keeps up with their previous trend. Hopefully by having at least 3 companies manufacturing the displays this early will help reduce the shipping times come launch time. I think a larger iPhone will sell like crazy and Apple will have a hard time trying to keep them in stock.

iOS 7 bug allows anyone to disable Activation Lock

There is a bug that allows someone to bypass activation lock as you can see in the video. The good news is this can be avoided is you have a passcode on your phone with a short timer.  I am sure Apple will fix this quickly as they have done in the past.

Apple announces WWDC 2014

The World Wide Developer Conference is set to kick off on June 2nd this year. This is where Apple announces new software, iOS 8 & Mac OS 10.10, and has engineers available for developers to help with questions or problems the may have. Last year the tickets sold out in under one minute. This year there will be a raffle for developers. The developer has to enter by 10am PST on April 7th to qualify.  Everyone will be notified by 5pm PST.

I am excited. I hope Apple announces some hardware this year too. I mean new hardware, not updates to existing, I'm looking at you iWatch!! The update that's acceptable is the Apple TV, but it has to be a major update.

Apple raises $70 Million for PRODUCT (RED)

Apple settles patent infringement suit with Intertrust Technologies

Intertrust files suite last March against Apple involving iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and the Mac.  The company has licensing agreements with major pliers like Samasung, HTC, Motorola and others. The patents in question were related to security and distributed trusted computing.  The company also sued Microsoft and won, big, $440 Million.

Apple & Samsung are back in court

The two companies have started their second battle of patent infringements this week. I am not going to be posting about it too often because  there will be a ton of info. Apple is looking for $2 Billion from Samsung. That is a lot of cash. Re/code has a post on some of the slides being shown. Definitely worth a look. We may be getting an idea of what will be coming from Apple.

That does it for the week. With WWDC officially announced and less then 2 months away, the iOS 8, OS X, Apple TV & iWatch rumors are sure to pick up. See you next week folks!!
