Last week wasn't too busy with Apple news. Lets take a look...
Apple Announces CarPlay
CarPlay, formally iOS in the car, will be available with iOS 7.1 and in select vehicles. You will be able to control messages, music and maps from the built in car entertainment center.
"GENEVA―March 3, 2014―Apple® today announced that leading auto manufacturers are rolling out CarPlay, the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone® in the car. CarPlay gives iPhone users an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. Users can easily control CarPlay from the car’s native interface or just push-and-hold the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri® without distraction."
iPad Outsells 4 top tablets Combined in 2013
Gartner released a report that shows the iPad was the best selling tablet in 2013. What is really interesting is even though the iPad is losing market share, they outsold the next 4 tablets combined. Apple sold 70.4M iPads, Samsung sold 37.4M tablets, Amazon sold 69.4M tablets and Lenovo sold 6.5M.
I guess Apple really is doomed when they are on top and outsell the next 4 competitors combined.
Apple Expands In Store Trade In Program to France
The convenient Apple trade in program is now available in France.
Good for people that don't want to do some extra work for more money. Gazelle offers more then the Apple Store will give you but you have to do some work to get it.
Apple CFO to Retire and Join Goldman Sachs Board of Directors
In 1 day Peter Oppenheimer joined Goldman Sachs and announced his retirement from Apple. Peter is retiring in September and will be grooming Luca Maestri to take over. Peter has been with Apple since before Steve Jobs returned in 1997. Luca, the man taking over for Peter, has over 20 years of experience in financial matters and has previously worked for Nokia Siemens and Xerox as CFO before joining Apple in 2013.
iOS 7.1 to come Monday?
John Gruber (fairly reliable) wrote a post saying a little birdie told him that the iTunes Festival App will require iOS 7.1
His post was promising until the app was updated shortly afterwards and did not require iOS 7.1
Apple to Eliminate Non-Retina MacBook Pro?
Digitimes is reporting that Apple will discontinue the non retina MacBook Pro during the 2nd half of 2014. This would also mean the end of the optical drive and that is the only Mac remaining that has one.
I would assume, we all know what happens when people assume, that Apple would also drop the price point of the Retina MacBook Pro. This also leave 2 macs with non retina screens, the MacBook Air and the iMac. I can see Apple adding retina to the Air but not the iMac. The display is too big for retina. Instead they will probably go with a 4K display in the iMac.
Apple Seeds OS 10.9.3 to Developers
This build is focused on bug fixes. What was also discovered is support to run 4K displays at Retina resolution.
"Our tests connected a late-2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display to a 4K Seiki monitor over HDMI. Running OS X pixel-doubled on a 4K display means content is much sharper than before. It is the same as running a Retina MacBook Pro at standard Retina resolution or as using a Retina iPhone or iPad. The screen pushes double the resolution in the same amount of space in order to provide the user with sharper graphics."- 9to5Mac
Apple Under Fire in Australia for Moving 9 Billion Tax free Dollars
Apple moved about $9 Billion dollars of profit from Australia to Ireland, untaxed. The Australian Government is going to try and recover the taxes dues on the money.

iPhone 6 to be Powered by TSMC A8 Processor, Not Samsung
Yet another report suggests that Samsung is out as the manufacture of the A8 processor. There are rumors prior to every iPhone that Apple is pushing out Samsung. We will just have to wait and see.
Is This the iPhone 6 Screen?
Apple Looses Bid to Ban Samsung Sales
US Judge Lucy Koh has denied Apples request to ban sales on Samaung devices that violated patents held by Apple. FOSS Patents (source) does a great job on breaking everything down.
Apple to Expand iAd
Literally. Recent rumors suggest that Apple will retool iAd to show full screen advertisements.
I don't mind the banner ads. Not sure how I feel about fell screen ads.
Thats it for the week folks. Did I miss anything? Anything catch your eye? Let me know on twitter or in the comments!!
